Let me tell you something about NY Pizza Suprema. I just don’t like to go above 14th Street in Manhattan for almost anything. To me, everything cool about NYC is below 14th Street. Flat out. End of story. But every once and a while I’ll find a reason to leave the cool kids behind and venture North. In this case, it’s one helluva great reason. NY Pizza Suprema. Located on 8th Avenue near the corner of 31st Street, just across from Madison Square Garden, NY Pizza Suprema was ranked as the best slice joint out of over 300 slice joints in NYC! That’s something to be proud of! And let me tell you, it’s pretty damn good!
Now they have one of the best line ups of slices around. The choices are quite overwhelming, so everyone is going to have their favorites, or even discover some new favorites. With that said, I’m going to highly recommend both their regular cheese slice and their Upside Down slice. As most New Yorkers know, the true test of any slice joint is a standard cheese slice, no toppings. If you can do this slice very well, then you deserve all the awards you can handle. Let me tell you, NY Pizza Suprema has an incredible cheese slice. Hands down the best I’ve ever had in Manhattan. The bottom of the crust is nice and crunchy with just enough char to give it that certain umph you’re looking for. It’s simple and it’s delicious. Nice and foldable with great sauce. Yeah, I’m a happy camper.
Next up you have their Upside Down slice. Why is it called an Upside Down slice you ask? It’s because it’s stacked crush, cheese then sauce, rather than the traditional crust, sauce then cheese on top. It’s a simple tweak that leads to another amazing slice. Also, the Upside Down slice is actually a square slice, so the crust with be thicker and give you a whole different experience. I love experiencing both a traditional slice and a square slice like this. It’s that perfect ying/yang!
Those two are my recommendations for NY Pizza Suprema, but once you get in line and see at least a dozen different types of slices starring you down, I’ll totally understand if you get something different. But you have to at least get a cheese slice. Do me that favor at least will ya??!
In any case, if you find yourself in Midtown, and maybe if you’re leaving Madison Square Garden after a show or sporting event, do yourself a huge favor and make your way over to NY Pizza Suprema, you won’t be disappointed!
