Artichoke Pizza, or more formally, Artichoke Basille’s Pizza, came out of nowhere and made a big splash on the pizza scene. More specifically, the pizza slice scene. I remember when their original and first location, on 14th Street near the corner of 1st Ave, would have a line from the moment they opened until the wee hours of the morning. The craziest lines were definitely from 10pm to the wee hours of the morning. Let me tell you, a slice of Artichoke pizza at 2am was a magical thing! With their solid pizza skills and amazing slices, Artichoke was soon able to open up more locations and now have several scattered across Manhattan and Brooklyn, which is great because those lines were killing me!

Now let’s get into the reason why Artichoke is in my Top 4 slices in NYC list. For me, it’s all about their margherita slice. Hands down. Now, I know what you’re saying, “But aren’t they known for their Artichoke slice?” Yes, they are, but for me, that’s a whole different animal and personally I really don’t like it at all. It’s just too gooey and the sauce on that slice can be quite overwhelming It’s good, but only a few bites and that’s it. The real winner is the margherita slice.

What I love about this slice is that the crust is just oh so perfect. It’s burnt just enough to give it that special flavor and the crunch factor is amazing. The sauce that they use is oh so flavorful and has a nice kick. The basil is first rate and you can really taste in in almost every bite. Another great thing about Artichoke’s slices is the portion. Since the crust tends do be a little thicker that some other slice joints, one slice is actually quite filling. No need to get two or three slices to fill up. One will do. But hey, you don’t have to put a gun to my head to get me to eat another amazing slice!

So with locations across Manhattan and Brooklyn, if you’re looking for one of the Top 4 slices around, do yourself a huge favor and stop into Artichokes. You simply won’t be disappointed!

Enjoy!
